Many have asked when can they expect to see PostGIS in Action in final form -- Hard-copy. Well we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We just turned in the last revision of chapter 13 on Raster after I would say about 15 revisions. Some of that was because functions changed midway (thanks Pierre and Jorge for the great help in ironing those last bits out). We also thank Dr. Jan Hartmann immensely for reading all the chapters, testing all the chapter code, and correcting our grammar :) . Jan was a great lifesaver at crunch time.
So when can you expect to see the Final book. It's looking like sometime in February and this time I don't think the time will be pushed. Half of the chapters have gone for typesetting and the remainder are fairly close. Anyrate we hate jinxing things by making projections. Look at how far that has gotten us so far. One year longer to finish than planned. Leo was not surprised, but I was very surprised how long it took. On the bright-side we covered a lot more territory than planned including pieces of PostgreSQL 9.0, 9.1, PostGIS 2.0 and had about twice as much content than we had set out to write.
It's nice to be able to breathe a little easier, and much easier once the book is finally out to print. Of course no sooner than we are done, we have to prepare for our next set of presentations which we had planned a long long time ago when we thought we'd be done with everything in December. So if you happen to be in North Carolina in February come drop us a line. Sadly I don't think the book will be in print before then, but we are hoping for a pleasant surprise.
