Paul gave quite a run down of the highlights here.
Paul's talk was the finale and he gave a trip down spatio temporal lane of how this PostGIS thing all started. Much of it I knew except for the fact I predate Sandro in PostGIS land by a year or so. Take that Sandro
.
And then there is mine, where I gave demos of several spatial extensions. I always have great ambitions, but always end never reaching my expectations or running out of time.
On the bright side, I was able to continue from where I left off last year and almost cover everything. The video is here, slides are here, and code is here.
All the talks were great and there was lots of rich technical content. Perhaps of most interest to PostgreSQL global crowd is Maxime's talk on Multi-Entry Generalize Search Trees. I'm planning to spend some time looking at that to see how the performance compares to existing PostGIS gist indexes. My most favorite, just cause I absolutely love stand-up comedy, was Brian Timoney, self-proclaimed Data Janitor, talk on Simplify, simplify, simplify!
with the magic of SVG.
Brian is famous for reminding us every year with a bit of self-deprecating humor, that we are all stupid in a very Rube Goldberg sort of way. His presentations always
start bleak and end with a spectacular feat of spatial imagination and leaves you laughing all the way up.
